When I joined BNI in June 2025, I wasn’t sure what to expect. As a marketer, I always understood the importance of building strong client relationships, but it wasn’t until I became an entrepreneur that I recognized the value of networking and connecting with fellow business owners. I wanted to experience firsthand how a structured referral network could help grow my business and support my journey as an entrepreneur.
A few months later, I was asked to serve as the Member Engagement Leader for our local BNI chapter.
Role Overview
As the Member Engagement Leader, my goal is to help every member get the most out of their BNI experience. This includes encouraging participation in chapter activities, supporting new members as they integrate into the group, and fostering authentic connections between members. I also review engagement reports to identify members who might need extra support, and I work closely with the Mentor Coordinator to ensure all new members complete the Passport Program.
At a high level, this role is about creating a thriving, connected, and supportive community of entrepreneurs.
The Marketing Parallel
Just as in marketing, the key to success in BNI is building authentic connections. Networking is not just about collecting contacts; it is about creating relationships that provide mutual value. Expanding your network with intentional, meaningful connections is essential for entrepreneurs.
The skills I use in marketing, listening, understanding needs, and delivering value translate directly into building strong relationships with fellow business owners in the chapter.
Looking Forward
I am grateful for the opportunity to take on this role just a few months after joining the chapter. I’m excited to see how these experiences will shape me as an entrepreneur.
Building leadership skills in this context will help me grow not only within the chapter but also in my business by strengthening my ability to connect, collaborate, and support others in meaningful ways.
